Burnham on Sea Report by Richard Saxby
It’s been a bit quiet since my last report but a few boats made it out over the bank holiday weekend. The weather wasn’t as good as forecast and the fishing was a bit below par but the boats that did make it out found just enough fish to keep them entertained. Surprisingly the hounds didn’t show in the bay but this proved to be just a blip and they were soon back in force. There were a few bass caught but mostly undersize though Martin Quinn did catch one of 4lb 9oz.
The following week we managed to hold our first competition of the year with 4 boats and 10 anglers fishing for the Presidents Cup. The weather was reasonable and the fishing was pretty hectic for most. The bay was carpeted with thornbacks, eels and dogfish with hounds and a few bass thrown in for good measure. 1st palce went to me with a hound of 15lb 4oz and 98%, 2nd was another hound of 12lb 6oz and 80% for Stephen Saxby. 3rd place went to Anthony Georgiou with a thornback of 10lb and 74%. The pools was won by Martin Quinn with a bass of 5lb 1oz and 63%
Fish of the month for May was won by Sarah Tench with a cracking hound of 18lb 14oz and 122%.
Next competition is an away day on the south coast on June 20th.
The next club meeting is on Thursday 17th June at Burnham Motor Boat and Sailing Club on the sea front, pop along if you are interested in joining a friendly club.
You can keep up-to date with latest news and catches and all things fishy on our facebook page and website Burnham Boat Owners Sea Angling Association.
That’s it from me, stay safe all and if you manage to get out fishing anywhere good luck.
