Poole report by Philip Higgins
The boat fishing has excelled itself this year with all boats recording good catches of Bream, Mackeral, and Tope. The harbour and channel approaches have seen some massive shoals of whitebait being chased by Mackeral, Scad and Bass, one shoal stretched from Stakes Bouy across to Brownsea Island with the birds working hard the fishing was fun and it started the day off well. Along the beaches Plaice and small Bream dominate the catches. The local rough ground marks across the bay have all had there good days and produced Bream up to 3lb 8ozs and with the bait fish around little Tope have moved in which put up a good fight on light gear if you can keep them on as many bite through the light traces. On the banks action has been full on with Rays,Tope and a few Turbot keeping anglers entertained. In the harbour Gilthead bream have shown along with some nice Plaice and Gurnards. In July we hope to see the much sought after Trigger Fish arrive and who knows possibly BFT. It is a short report this month as so much is going on and being so busy whilst trying to deal with all the issues targeting Recreational Sea Angling time is precious as my wife keeps reminding me.
