Poole report by Philip Higgins
The Plaice fishing has been phenomenal during the month, the fish have been of varying sizes and the best to date fell to a young lad fishing onboard Terry Allen’s boat Danny Boy 11 weighing in at 3lb 3ozs. Local angling club Albion SAC landed 84 Plaice along with Mackeral, Gurnards, Hounds and a bonus Turbot. Usually we have seen the Bream arrive in numbers by mid April but due to unseasonally low temperatures and with ground frost most days the Bream did not show in numbers until the last few days of April. When out fishing you endured all 4 seasons in one day, warm, cold , wet and windy which does not help. The outer banks have produced some nice Rays and congers in areas we can fish but are subject to heavy commercial fishing making it difficult to find a spot to anchor, further off to sea Spurdogs are the target and some nice Pollack have been caught on the wrecks. As the weather warms up I am sure the fishing will improve.
