West Bay SAC

Saturday 15th May, club members fished the latest Andy Neal Rover from various venues. All the competitors managed to catch fish with the top three being;

1st Most Fish Points: Gerry Reed 2pts

2nd Longest fish: Paul House Dogfish 59cm

3rd Most Species: Steve Fowles

On Thursday the 27th May club members and a guest fished West Bexington, this match was originally to be fished at Seatown but due to the recent large cliff fall and the instability of the cliff it was switch too West Bexington for the safety of our entrants. Only one competitor was unable to find the fish on the day, but Tony Colls manged to catch a 3kg Smoothound  (photo Attached) which helped him take the win.

Lymington & District S.F.C’s recreational fishing trips

Recreational Mid-week Boat Trip 28th April 2021.

    On Wednesday 28th April Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held a mid-week recreational fishing trip in which six club members boarded charter boat “Voyager” skippered by Kevin Duell out from Lymington Haven Marina.

    With the weather forecast good for the day Kevin headed to a mark called Southbourne Rough where we were hoping to catch bream.  As soon as Kevin dropped anchor, we were not disappointed.  Bream were being caught weighing between 1lb and a 1½lb.

    When the tide slackened, we moved to the Dolphin Bank drifting for plaice.  A number were caught with Pete Drodge having five and the best plaice went to Malcolm Gerrish at 1½lb.

Recreational Mid-week Boat Trip 26th May 2021.  

    On Wednesday 26th May six club members from Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held a mid-week recreational fishing trip aboard “Mistress Linda” skippered by Phil Higgins out from Poole.

    Phil took us out from Poole Harbour to a mark in Swanage Bay where we spent a number of hours catching over 100 bream with most being returned.  Sizes varied between small and up to 2lb in weight.

    Phil then took us back into Poole Bay where we drifted for plaice, the best by George Dark being around the 2lb mark.  Robin Lane had a small turbot which was returned to the sea.  Our final stop was a mark called the Half Bank where bream, dogfish, smoothhound and plaice were caught. 

Lymington & District S.F.C’s Shingle Bank League competition

7th Shingle Bank League Competition 3rd June 2021.

    On Thursday evening 3rd June Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held its 7th Shingle Bank League competition.  The weather for the evening was good, sunny and warm with a south/west breeze.  Eighteen club members signed on and ten weighed in twenty-one fish consisting of dogfish, bream, pollack, garfish, conger eel, smoothhound and spotted and thornback rays for a total weight of 35lbs 9.3oz.  All fish are returned to the sea gently after weighing.  The best fish of the evening was a smoothhound weighing 9lb 2oz caught by Ben Daniel.

Lymington & District S.F.C’s 6th shore competition

6th Shore competition 22nd May 2021.

    On Sunday 22nd May Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held its 6th shore competition.  Due to the strong winds the venue was changed and was fished at Friars Cliff instead of the White House at Milford-on-Sea.

    The weather for the evening was sunny with a very strong north-west wind.  Seven club members signed on and five weighed in eight fish consisting of dogfish, pouting, smoothhound and whiting for a total weight of 9lb 11.2oz.

    The best round fish of the evening was a smoothhound wei9ghing in at 3lb 3oz caught by Luke Woodford.  The flat fish pool and best specimen pool are both rollovers until the next competition.
